Day 1: Thu 25 Aug – Hippo Farm to Hervey Bay to Brisbane

Living in Torbanlea means the closest airport is in Hervey Bay. And flights from Hervey Bay are not conducive for international travel. So, I chose to overnight in Brisbane rather than Sydney meaning I had to get the last flight out of Hervey Bay today. Greg had some shopping to do, so we left home a little early, finished shopping earlier than expected so went to the airport early, so Greg could get back in time to go to the pub for dinner! Check-in opened not long after I arrived, and upon checking-in I was told there was a half-hour delay - at the moment! The chap checking me in thought the time delay would improve; with QANTAS, really?? Now I know it might not be QANTAS' fault as Brisbane airport is notorious for delaying flights. So, here I am with nothing to do and another half an hour to do it in. Pity there is no QC here

So, we take off at the new scheduled time of 6:15pm, are about half way through the flight when the Captain comes on - "Evening ladies and gents, blah, blah, blah, due to traffic congestion over Brisbane airport, we will be banking to the left over Gympie and will have you disembarking about 50 minutes later than the very original schedule!! Ok, no problems, I've had a half a glass of wine with my water biscuits and red bean Mexican salsa, mild salami stick (very chewy) and soy stick crisps. Oh well, that's dinner!

I was worried I may not make it to the hotel before they closed at 8pm. I had rung them to let them know I may need a late check-in and they leave your room key in alight safe with a pin code. But, I made it with 5 mins to spare. Room 22 on the second floor; a luggage lift but man has to use the stairs. One of the nicest hotel rooms I've stayed in.

Booked the hotel shuttle bus to the international terminal which leaves at 7am tomorrow. Time for a shower and then to sleep.
